Diana Taurasi is on Fire

By Southern C

Diana Taurasi has got game.

The Phoenix Mercury’s 104-80 win over the Minnesota Lynx Thursday might as well have been renamed the Diana Taurasi show. Taurasi finished with 28 points and six assists, shooting seven-of-eight from behind the arc and leading her team to first place in the Western Conference.

I have been on the Taurasi bandwagon since her Connecticut Huskies days playing for head coach Geno Auriemma. Auriemma once said of his team’s chances of winning with her at point guard: “We have Diana, and you don’t.”

Arguably the best player in the WNBA, Taurasi is one of the league’s premier scorers. The 6-0 guard currently leads the WNBA in three point field goals while shooting nearly 50 percent from behind the arc.

Her sweet jump shot has awed teammates, opponents and fans for years and is one of the most underrated facets of her game.

The purpose of this post, however, is not to celebrate Taurasi’s legendary shooting.

She’s also really cool. No joke. If you don’t believe me check out her website.

Firstly, let’s evaluate her music taste. The website’s playlist features hip-hop artist Lupe Fiasco, legendary Prince, Queens Bridge rapper Nas and Irish band U2. Top notch.

Her sneakers are also pretty fly. They are reasonably priced and if they sold them in men’s sizes, I would easily purchase them.

Taurasi even has her own charity called “The Diana Taurasi Foundation.” According to her website:

The Diana Taurasi Foundation is partnering with kaBOOM!, other uconn women’s basketball alumni, barnun financial, people’s bank, the bridgeport bluefish and Chemwerth as well as several local donors to say thank you to Connecticut and her uconn fans by building a playground for kinds on Bridgeport, Ct.

In addition to being active in her community, Taurasi also has her own blog, which she unfortunately hasn’t updated since October. Her posts, however, are really engaging. The topics range from political discussion to stories from playing overseas in Russia.

And apparently, Taurasi is also fluent in Spanish, Italian and Russian.

WNBA superstar, master DJ, style coordinator, philanthropist, writer and Diplomat.

Is it hard being so awesome?
